This piece is not only topical but also an absolute joy to read. Who doesn’t love poetry? Speaking of — My long-time friend and musical comrade Alex Burgoyne has a poetry blog that is very excellent. I’ve set a few of his poems to music and it was a joy to work with his text on each occasion!
For the North Americans reading this: next time one of your car-brained friends makes an argument about how cars replaced horses and now there’s no going back, show them this site that explicitly shows how car dependency is a manufactured problem that only exists in North America (Thanks, lobbyists and unregulated capitalism!).
It was only in the last year or so that I started hearing people saying that any computer scientist or programmer should also study typography. I sort of jumped on the idea by purchasing a copy of Kate Brideau’s The Typographic Medium when I saw it on the shelf at Torn Light Records. I’ve always found the subject to be interesting (go figure …) and I think this article really articulates why. It’s also (appropriately) beautifully formatted and an absolute pleasure to read. I also more recently stumbled upon this as well.
And here’s a video of the Outdoor Horse Shrine set from Record Grouch that was the same weekend as Ende Tymes 16. Joe’s set here as well as the one he did for the fest the day prior were absolutely ripping. He is, in my opinion, one of the most inspiring artists in Harsh Noise right now.
