Friday Links

Some (read: all) of these have been sitting in open tabs on the browser in my phone for a while now (maybe since the end of summer?). I’m finally cleaning those “saved for later” tabs out by posting links here. After all, the point of these posts is part sharing things I find interesting but mostly keeping them somewhere so I can refer back to them later. So basically I have moved the clutter from all the open tabs in my phone browser to here …there’s a bad joke in there somewhere I’m sure.

I originally found this while doing a web search for how to get into systems programming. There’s enough here to keep me busy for a long time …

Lieder, using text from Craigslist ads. Speaks for itself.

“I’m afraid it’s terminal”

lol

In the past I’ve used tinyjpg to compress images for web. Squoosh does the processing locally on your device without requiring an upload. I came across this while reading a blog post by David Bushell who seems like a reasonably trustworthy fellow.

Some fun ideas here for sure.

I’m sick of hearing about AI, you’re sick of hearing about AI, yet here I am sharing ANOTHER article with AI in the title. It’s a really weird conundrum being a recent CS grad and knowing that there is objectively a lot still out there for me to learn and gain experience in while also looking for a job where the expectation is to have an LLM write your code for you. I think TFA provides an easy to understand analogy as to why someone in my position would avoid using AI in personal/portfolio projects even though its mentioned in almost every single developer job posting.
